Botox Aftercare
What to Do (and Avoid) After Your Treatment
You’ve had your Botox treatment — now what?
While Botox is quick and non-surgical, proper Botox aftercare is essential to ensure you get the best, longest-lasting results. Whether you’re a first-timer or a regular client, knowing what to do (and what not to do) in the hours and days after your appointment can make a big difference.
At The Beautique in West Runton, Cromer, Norfolk, we always guide our clients through their Botox aftercare in person, but here’s a full breakdown you can refer to at home.

✅ Why Botox Aftercare Matters
Botox works by relaxing specific facial muscles to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. But it needs a little time to settle into place — usually between 2 to 14 days — and how you care for yourself during that time can affect your results.
Proper Botox aftercare can help:
-
Avoid bruising or swelling
-
Prevent product migration (Botox spreading where it shouldn’t)
-
Maximise results and treatment longevity
-
Reduce side effects or complications
🕓 The First 4 Hours of Botox Aftercare: What to Do Immediately After
Right after your injections, your skin may feel slightly sensitive or look a little red — this is totally normal. During the first few hours, be gentle with your face and avoid anything that could interfere with the product settling.
Do:
-
Stay upright for at least 4 hours (no lying down or bending over)
-
Gently move your facial muscles (smiling, raising eyebrows)
-
Apply a cold pack lightly if there’s any swelling
Don’t:
-
Rub, massage, or touch the treated area
-
Wear tight hats or headbands that press on the injection sites
-
Apply makeup until at least 6 hours have passed

🚫 Botox Aftercare Your First 24 Hours: What to Avoid
For the rest of the day after your appointment, we advise avoiding:
-
Heavy exercise (sweating can affect how Botox settles)
-
Alcohol (can increase the risk of bruising)
-
Heat exposure (sunbeds, saunas, hot showers or baths)
-
Facial treatments or massages
Keeping your skin calm and cool is key. It’s your body’s time to rest and let the Botox get to work.
🗓 The Next Few Days
Over the next 3–7 days, your results will begin to appear more clearly.
You may notice:
-
A tighter or smoother feel in the treated areas
-
Less muscle movement
-
Gradual reduction in lines and wrinkles
If you notice small bumps or slight asymmetry in the first few days, don’t worry — this is often part of the settling process. We recommend waiting the full 2 weeks to assess your results properly.
👩⚕️ What About Touch-Ups?
At Beautique, we offer review appointments around the 2-week mark. This gives your practitioner a chance to check results and, if needed, make small adjustments for symmetry or extra smoothing.
Touch-ups are quick and often involve only a few additional units, depending on how your muscles have responded.
⚠️ When to Contact Your Practitioner
Side effects are rare, but if you experience any of the following, get in touch:
-
Persistent swelling or redness
-
Headaches that don’t ease with pain relief
-
Drooping eyelid or eyebrow
-
Difficulty swallowing or speaking (extremely rare)
Your safety and peace of mind are always our top priority. At Beautique, we’re here to support you before, during, and after your treatment.
